A tribute to the evolution of Japan’s most iconic monster.
From 1954 to 2016, Gojira Era showcases 8 versions of Godzilla across different eras, each one with its own size, design and symbolism.
Arranged by height, the poster reveals how the King of the Monsters has grown with time, from a metaphor for nuclear trauma to a worldwide pop culture icon.
Perfect for fans of kaijū movies, cinema history and Japanese visual culture.
Fun facts:
- ゴジラ (Gojira) is a mix of gorilla (ゴリラ) and whale (クジラ).
- Until 1998, every Godzilla was played by an actor in a rubber suit (called “suitmation”).
- Some suits weighed over 100 kg and had no ventilation until 1994.
- In 2015, Godzilla became an official tourism ambassador in Tokyo (Shinjuku).
- He has his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame since 2004.
Part of the Scale-It Series #1
A series of three posters playing with proportions in Japanese culture:
– Mountains of Japan (nature)
– Towers of Japan (urbanization)
– Gojira Era (chaos, pop culture)
